Assisting reps with neurological disorders

We recognise that some conference-goers are affected by many and varied neurological disorders. The special needs of neuro-diverse individuals can include an Individually Controlled Environment (for example quiet surroundings, avoidance of bright lighting, flashing lights, and vivid colour contrasts).

Although it is difficult to meet all these requirements (for example impossible to prevent the use of flash photography in the main auditorium, particularly during the Leader's Speech), we are constantly working to do what we can to meet individual requirements, and we aim to be as adaptable as possible. We include in the directory a warning that flash photography is likely to be used, and we also endeavour to avoid very bright lighting where possible.

Conference stewards will be helpful if a conference-goer has a problem with one of these issues. The auditorium stewards in particular are always willing to help with the completion of the speaker's cards.

If you are a conference-goer affected by a neurological condition, please contact us well in advance of conference if you feel there is additional personalised help we can provide. We will happily investigate this.
